Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cusipata – Rainbow Mountain – Cusco

Early Morning Pickup & Scenic Drive

Your adventure begins very early in the morning with hotel pickup between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. from Cusco’s historic center. We travel south through breathtaking Andean landscapes, where the first light of dawn reveals valleys, rivers, and towering mountains.

Breakfast in Cusipata

We stop in the charming town of Cusipata to enjoy a nutritious Andean breakfast made with local ingredients — the perfect fuel for the hike ahead.

Hike to Rainbow Mountain

After breakfast, we continue by vehicle to the trailhead. From here, a 2-hour hike takes us through high-altitude terrain surrounded by snow-capped peaks, alpaca herds, and the peaceful silence of the Andes.

Arrival at Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)

At the summit, Rainbow Mountain reveals its stunning natural colors — reds, yellows, greens, and turquoise — formed by mineral deposits over millions of years. Enjoy free time to take photos, admire the scenery, and connect with one of Peru’s most iconic landscapes.

Lunch & Return to Cusco

After descending, we return to Cusipata for a well-deserved Andean lunch. In the afternoon, we travel back to Cusco, arriving in the early evening with unforgettable memories of the Andes.

Recommendations

  • Spend at least 1–2 days in Cusco or the Sacred Valley to acclimatize before the tour.
  • Dress in warm layers, as temperatures can change rapidly throughout the day.
  • Wear sturdy hiking shoes or trekking boots with good grip.
  • Bring sun protection: sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or cap.
  • Stay well hydrated; bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Walk at a slow, steady pace and rest whenever necessary due to the high altitude.
  • Horse rental is available on-site for travelers who may need extra assistance (optional).
  • Carry small amounts of cash for tips, horse rental, or personal expenses.
  • Respect the natural environment and local communities by not leaving trash behind.
